Bit of fence going up on Leith Hill
We were up at the trails with the man from the Forestry Commission last
night to discuss trail progress with the FC, and he mentioned that they
will be putting a fence along the top of the ancient boundary banks. This
is to stop some mountain bikers gouging paths across it.
The area that will be fenced is the boundary with
National Trust land, as people coming down Deliverance
have caused a lot of damage to the banks which are
historically valuable. The FC have had a lot of complaints
from local residents about bikers using the area and
so the fence is going up to keep people happy.
We hope people will respect the wishes of the FC by
not trying to go over the fence, there are several
trails crossing the boundary since new ones spring
up as soon as the old one becomes muddy and it is looking
a bit of a mess even after the dry weather. With any
luck we will be eventually able to negotiate a way
around the fenced bit and this will be a lot more likely
to succeed if people are careful in where they ride.
