Forestry Commission are set to restart harvesting on Summer Lightning early in the new year. We haven't got the full details yet, but it's likely to be the same plan that the nice men from Forestry talked us through in early 2005. There's a map from back then here:

Basically, the last three sections of Summer Lightning will be clear felled, so they'll be closed. Originally this was set to go ahead in early 2005, but a fire at the Commission's big sawmill put the kibosh on that. Linky here:

The first two sections of Summer Lightning were harvested in 2004, and bounced right back up as soon as they were re-opened - testament to the care the Forestry staff took to avoid damaging the trail.
We're hoping to use the clear felling as a chance to get some more serious work done on the trail after harvesting has finished, so keep an eye out for emails and news from us about the next build day on this bit.
